Garbage and Blue Box Recycling Pickup Schedule
Former Sarawak – Wednesdays
Former Derby – Wednesdays
Former Keppel & Shallow Lake – Mondays
Recycling pickup is every two weeks.
Garbage pickup is every week.
Please note: Recycling will be picked up on holidays except for Christmas and New Year’s.
Please put garbage and recyclables at the road side before 7am.
Recycling and Composting
Blue boxes are available at the Township office for $6.00 and composters for $30. Blue box and yard waste materials can be dropped off at the Landfill Site at no charge.
Free Polystyrene and Styrofoam disposal is available at the Owen Sound Transfer Station, located at 2125-20th Avenue East
Hazardous Waste Days
Hazardous waste materials should be taken to an Owen Sound Hazardous Waste Saturday at 1900 20th Street East.
Dates for 2010 are: April 10, May 1, June 5, July 10, August 7, September 11, October 2 and October 16.
Hazardous waste materials will not be accepted at the landfill site.
E-Waste
Electronics will be accepted at the landfill.
Garbage Collection
All Garbage Bags require Bag Tags. Bag tags are available for $2.00 at the Township Office and the following locations:
Owen Sound - Foodland, Zehrs, Metro, Owen Sound Library, Kwik Mart 14th and 6th Street, Marine Convenience
Shallow Lake - Allen’s Mercantile, Shallow Lake Variety
Hepworth - Cindy’s Variety
Wiarton - Foodland, Daisy Mart, Big Bay General Store
Kilsyth General Store, The Gas Barn, Barry’s Service Centre in Rockford, Springmount Service Centre, Kemble Post Office
Maximum bag size is 26”x36” and not exceeding 50 lbs per bag. Garbage boxes must have a visible marker to indicate “full” or “empty”. To ensure the bag tag does not come off in the cold weather, wrap the tag around the tied knot & fasten it to itself.
Ontario Tire Stewardship Program
This is a province-wide program directed to divert scrap tires away from burning and landfills to the 3R’s (reduce, recycle & reuse). The program eliminates the disposal fee that consumers currently pay to get rid of their old tires. Tires can now be dropped off at the Georgian Bluffs Landfill at no charge during normal landfill operating hours. Collected tires will be shipped to processing centres for recycling.
